IFSA Fellow Procedure

The IFSA Fellow Award is a special distinction conferred to people who have made outstanding contributions to the field of fuzzy sets and related disciplines. The IFSA Fellowship can be awarded for outstanding research achievements, applications, and organizational contributions to the fuzzy community.

The purpose of this document is to describe the procedure for the initiation, nominations, selection, and induction of the IFSA Fellows.

  1. Nomination Procedure:
  1. The selection procedure of the new IFSA Fellows proceeds each second year, and the results are announced, and the new IFSA Fellows inducted, at each biannual IFSA World Congress unless determined otherwise by the IFSA Council.
  2. The selection process of the IFSA Fellows is initiated by an official announcement by the IFSA Council in last months of the year before the next IFSA World Congress at which the IFSA Fellows awarding ceremony will take place, to give ample time for the nomination and selection procedure.
  3. An announcement of the initiation of the IFSA Fellows selection process is posted on the Web page of IFSA, and sent to all IFSA associations with a request to post them at their respective Web pages; it can also be announced in other ways, and on other Web sites, media, etc. if deemed appropriate by the IFSA Council.
  4. The announcement is sent to all IFSA Council members and all IFSA Fellows.
  5. The announcement contains information on (and a link to) the rules adopted by the IFSA Council for the nomination procedure, i.e. the deadline for the submission of nominations, how to submit the nominations, etc.
  6. The nomination of a candidate for the IFSA Fellows should be submitted by a person called a nominator. The only restriction on the nominator is to be different than the candidate. The nominator can also be an institution, industrial or commercial company, learned or professional society, IFSA institutional member, etc. and in such a case the nomination should be signed by an authorized representative. Each nominator is authorized to nominate at most 2 candidates.
  7. The nomination is to be submitted by email to the Chair of the IFSA Fellows Committee, with a copy to the Secretary of IFSA Council (or other person indicated by the IFSA Council). The emails, deadline and instructions on the nomination submissions will be included in the announcement of the IFSA Council initiating the selection process.

The nomination package should consist of the following 5 compulsory items:

      1. An official nomination letter of the candidate,
      2. A written (may be by email) consent of the candidate to be nominated,
      3. A short description of reasons justifying the nomination of the candidate for an IFSA Fellow
      4. A short CV and list of publication and/or professional achievements of the candidate,
      5.  At least three (short) support letters by the existing IFSA Fellows.

Moreover, at the discretion of the nominator, up to three additional support letters can be added.

The above documents should be included in the package as the pdf files, and the whole nomination package should be sent as a zipped file labeled:
“name-ifsafellow-year.zip”.
